Pressure

Barometric pressure

Pressure is most useful when it shows movement. A stable, rising, or falling trend can add context to the rest of today’s fishing forecast.

Interpretation

Pressure trend is still building from recent samples. Current pressure is available, but there needs to be more readings before it can be interpreted.

Pressure is only one signal. Wind, tide, solunar timing, water movement, and local structure still matter.

Pressure movement

Recent readings build the pressure trend used for interpretation.

Pressure trend chart will appear once more readings are available.

Reading the wind

Wind direction and strength can affect comfort, casting, and exposure around this location.

Wind gusts can be stronger than the average wind speed, so it's worth checking the gust forecast if you're planning to fish from an exposed location or need to know about potential changes in conditions.

Even modest wind can affect comfort and casting, especially where the water is exposed.

The marker shows the current wind direction, while the daily outlook below shows whether conditions are likely to build or ease over the coming days.

Marine interpretation

Wave: low Water: cold

Marine conditions appear manageable based on currently available wave readings.

Marine caution

Even lower wave conditions can vary depending on wind and local water movement. Forecast wave heights are averages rather than peak conditions. Individual waves may exceed the forecast height at times. Wind and local chop can quickly affect comfort and control. Wave period around 9.45 s can influence how conditions feel on the water. Conditions in open water can change quickly, so keep checking throughout the session.

Water temperature

Water temperature is around 13.4 C, making immersion a more significant factor to plan for. Cool or cold water can affect grip, coordination, and swimming ability. Wind and rough water can increase the impact of an accidental immersion.

Check local marine warnings, ramps, vessel limits and current conditions before heading out.

Mordialloc Creek Fishing

The footpaths and well-made concrete walls make Mordialloc Creek fishing one of the most comfortable in Melbourne.

While you will see people at Mordialloc Creek fishing with traditional bait, there’s a heck of a lot of opportunity for soft-plastic and hardbody lure enthusiasts here.

The structure afforded by the moored boats, as well as the churn you get at the mouth, gives you plenty of opportunities, and more folks could outfish the bait fishers here if they fished these spots.

The area where most people go Mordialloc Creek fishing is directly opposite the Mordialloc Yacht Club.

Mordialloc Creek fishing mostly takes place along the area beside the car park through to the creek mouth. Level with where the Mordialloc Pier begins.

There’s one interesting fishing technique that you’ll see when fishing in Mordialloc Creek.

A method that you don’t see in too many other places around Melbourne. It is the long European rods.

These rods often have no reel. The line affixes directly to the rod butt and the rod. Often telescopic. It is extended out over the water – rather than cast.

These rods can be anywhere from 10 to 18 feet long. They do, in fact, catch fish with them too!

However, most folks will use a standard spinning rod up to 9′ in length.

Pros

  • Close and easy access via Nepean Highway
  • Family-friendly – children under strict supervision
  • Good range of fish habitats and fish species
  • Reasonably Disability friendly on pathways along the creek from the car park
  • The great structure under and around boats for bream
  • Can be very productive fishing at times
  • Plenty of Parking

Cons

  • Parking is good, but can work out expensive during the day.
  • Toilets are unpredictable. Sometimes fair – sometimes rancid.
  • Can be a gathering point for youth gangs and evidence of drug use at times in toilets and scrub areas along the foreshore.
  • Creek is polluted, so avoid eating fish taken from the creek – catches from the pier are fine according to the EPA.

Final Fishing Tip

Use berley and/or attractants to get the fish to your bait or lure. I can’t emphasise this enough, even when you are Fishing Mordialloc Pier.

Local caution:

Mordialloc Creek may be affected by urban runoff or water-quality issues. Consider catch-and-release where appropriate and check current Victorian fish consumption advice. That has always been my policy here.

Can Getfished tell if fish are biting at Mordialloc Creek, today?

No. Because a forecast cannot truthfully guarantee whether fish are biting at a specific spot right now. Getfished shows the current fishing conditions instead: tide movement, solunar timing, weather, wind, pressure, marine conditions and fising report, derived, species history.

Use this information to make informed decisions about where to fish, and to compare conditions across nearby locations. We hope you enjoy using Getfished to find your next great fishing spot!

🛈 Getfished Reporting Summaries Source

Fishing report summaries are derived from Getfished’s structured fishing report database system. More information on this on how we collect and structure fishing report data can be found on our Fishing reports information.

Forecasts are based on the Getfished Meteorological and Solunar Forecasting System, which combines data from the BOM, and other sources. Our custom software systems use these inputs to establish solunar, tides and other forecasts for fishing conditions.
