Despite the dryness of the Australian continent there are a number of lakes in Victoria. Both saltwater and freshwater. Most lakes are inlande and freshwater. Some have formed inside volcanic craters. Others are manmade dams. While the famous Gippsland lakes are estuary driven, often blocked off or partially restricted from the ocean.
Freshwater lakes species include natives like: Murray Cod, Yellowbelly as well as introduced species like Rainbow Trout, Redfin. Some pest species like European Carp are also found, often in plague proportions.
Saltwater lakes see species like Bream, Mullet and other esturine species.
