Pressure

Pressure is most useful when it shows movement. A stable, rising, or falling trend can add context to the rest of today’s fishing forecast.

Interpretation

Pressure trend is still building from recent samples. Current pressure is available, but there needs to be more readings before it can be interpreted.

Pressure is only one signal. Wind, tide, solunar timing, water movement, and local structure still matter.

Pressure movement

Recent readings build the pressure trend used for interpretation.

Pressure trend chart will appear once more readings are available.

Reading the wind

Wind direction and strength can affect comfort, casting, and exposure around this location.

Wind gusts can be stronger than the average wind speed, so it's worth checking the gust forecast if you're planning to fish from an exposed location or need to know about potential changes in conditions.

Even modest wind can affect comfort and casting, especially where the water is exposed.

The marker shows the current wind direction, while the daily outlook below shows whether conditions are likely to build or ease over the coming days.

Marine interpretation

Wave: moderate Water: cold

Marine conditions appear manageable based on currently available wave readings.

Marine caution

Moderate waves call for more margin, particularly in open or exposed water. Forecast wave heights are averages rather than peak conditions. Individual waves may exceed the forecast height at times. Wind and local chop can quickly affect comfort and control. Wave period around 11.30 s can influence how conditions feel on the water. Conditions in open water can change quickly, so keep checking throughout the session.

Water temperature

Water temperature is around 13.7 C, making immersion a more significant factor to plan for. Cool or cold water can affect grip, coordination, and swimming ability. Wind and rough water can increase the impact of an accidental immersion.

Check local marine warnings, ramps, vessel limits and current conditions before heading out.

Hastings Pier Fishing

Hastings Pier is a land-based fishing spot on Western Port Bay, reached from Skinner Street in Hastings. Access is straightforward for shore anglers, with a nearby car park and public toilets, plus facilities around the base of the pier at Fred Smith Reserve. The pier format makes it useful for anglers without a boat, but the railings can be awkward when setting up rods, so plan how gear will sit before committing to a position.

Tide and light are important factors here. High tide is worth prioritising, especially around dawn or dusk, and night sessions can change how the pier fishes. Sandy patches are useful water to reach when targeting bottom-feeding bay species, while the pylons and the shadow lines beneath the pier lights create more defined structure. Gummy sharks are a night option, so larger fish and landing height need to be considered before fishing heavier baits.

Work the pier by matching casts to the available structure rather than staying fixed in one pattern. Sandy gaps suit baits such as pipis, Bass yabbies or squid strips, while the pylons can hold fish close to the timber. After dark, squid jigs are worth casting around the lit and shaded edges under the pier lights. Soft plastics and metal lures also have a place when fish are moving through, but bait control around tide movement remains a practical part of fishing this pier.

A rod holder attachment or a protected rod-rest setup can help with the railings. A drop net is worth having on hand for larger catches, particularly at night or when fishing baits intended for gummy sharks.

Can Getfished tell if fish are biting at Hastings Pier, today?

No. Because a forecast cannot truthfully guarantee whether fish are biting at a specific spot right now. Getfished shows the current fishing conditions instead: tide movement, solunar timing, weather, wind, pressure, marine conditions and fising report, derived, species history.

Use this information to make informed decisions about where to fish, and to compare conditions across nearby locations. We hope you enjoy using Getfished to find your next great fishing spot!

Fishing report summaries are derived from Getfished’s structured fishing report database system. More information on this on how we collect and structure fishing report data can be found on our Fishing reports information.

Forecasts are based on the Getfished Meteorological and Solunar Forecasting System, which combines data from the BOM, and other sources. Our custom software systems use these inputs to establish solunar, tides and other forecasts for fishing conditions.
