This is where the Getfished team share our thoughts on fishing forecasts. Unlike some other sites, we don’t think solunar forecasts tell the whole story. We also believe that using a collection of fishing reports, instead of just one, gives you a better resource as an angler.

Some of our ideas are different from how most fishing forecast websites and tools work. Fishing forecasts and reports can only give general guidance. They can’t promise you’ll catch fish, since there are too many factors involved, and many of them are unknown.

It is difficult, if not impossible, to predict what specific food a species is feeding on at a given time. Fish often feed exclusively on a specific food because it is available at that moment. For example, a hatch of shrimp in saltwater species. Mayflys with trout. Some of these foods can be predicted in approximate terms, for example, between December and February (Summer), but not precisely.

Fishing reports on a report-by-report basis only really tell us what happened yesterday, last week or the recent past. They are probably a lot cooler and more exciting, but not necessarily enough to make a judgment on what species and where to target them.

This is why Getfished instead collates fishing reports over long periods of time and presents trends, based upon the thousands of reports we have collated across the web.

The trends can tell you a lot more about knowing when a species may be active, what bait or lure has worked and where to go to find them because it’s a team effort. All the anglers’ reports come together to build patterns.
